Library of Virginia Literary Awards
Annual awards for books by a Virginia author or with a Virginia-related
theme. A Virginia author is defined as a native-born Virgininan, an
author living in Virginia, or an author whose permanent home address
is Virginia who resides elsewhere. Each year's awards honor books written
in the previous calendar year in fiction, nonfiction, or poetry.

National Endowment for the Arts
Founded in 1965. Despite cutbacks in their grants to individuals, who,
as Congress so readily knows, have such risky independent thoughts,
the NEA still offers individual artist grants of $20,000 to writers
across the country. Poets and translators are eligible in alternate
years. Program grants to arts organizations cover all US states, territories,
and military bases. Special initiatives for rural and inner-city arts
groups.

National Endowment for the Humanities
Founded in 1965. Grants and awards in several humanities categories
given annually to cultural institutions (museums, archives, libraries,
colleges, public TV, radio stations) and individual scholars. Also publishes

Reginald S. Tickner Writing Fellowship
One year fellowship to serve as Writer-in-Residence at the Gilman School,
a private secondary boys school in Baltimore. Writer is expected to
interact with and mentor students.

The Society for the Arts in
Healthcare
Provides grants and free technical assistance to local arts agencies
(but not individuals) partnered with health organizations to establish
or enhance existing arts and healing programs. Programs may range from
artist residencies, exhibits, concerts and bed-side crafts activities
in hospitals to artists working with visiting nurses, hospice and nursing
homes.
