IOWA
Grin City Collective

Artist residency program combined with a volunteer corps, this program expects all residents to complete social service projects in and around Grinell, IA. Housing in 125-year-old-farm house and workspace in a converted tofu factory on 130 acres. Residencys perform between 5 and 20 hours of community service and outreach every week. Examples of outreach include farming, leading discussions in local prisons, teaching children's art workshops, and socializing with home-bound elderly. Up to eight residents at a time share rooms with one other roommate. Facilities include woodworking shop, rudimentary metals shop, very ancient letter press, ceramics kiln. Studio space is also shared. Weekly fees charged; some emerging artist residencies with no fees available. (visual, performing arts)

Herbert Hoover National Historical Site

Park housing or stipend for rental nearby. Artist asked to contribute a piece of work created during stay and provide interpretive or public program. 2 artists per year; residencies of 2-3 weeks from May to October; Open to 2D visual artists, photographers, sculptors, performers, writers, video/filmmakers, composers, craft artists. KANSAS
Salina Art Center, 242 S. Santa Fe, P.O. Box 743, Salina, KS (785) 827-1431. Two residencies a year, ranging from 6 to 12 weeks. For painting, drawing, installation, digital imaging, community and sound art, and sculpture with limited facilities for photography, printmaking, ceramics. Weekly open studio sessions, education outreach, community activities/interaction, as well as time and facilities for the artists to create personal work that meets their creative goals. Possible exhibition opportunities at the Salina Art Center's gallery and screenings at the Salina Art Center Cinema. Housing at the Warehouse in furnished apartment with a private bath, kitchenette, laundry facilities, and computer access. (visual, media arts)

 

MISSOURI
Craft Alliance

Studio facilities in the Kranzberg Cultural Art Center in the cultural center in the city of St. Louis. Studios of 180 sq. feet equipped with internet access and specialized equipment; exhibit and teaching opportunities; sales opportunities. Artists must work a minimum of 20 hours a week during public hours; visitors can view artists at work. Studio rental is free; artists must pay for their own housing offsite; staff can make recommendations for housing. (visual arts)

Residencies of 3, 6, or 12 months for emerging and mid-career visual artists with a contemporary studio practice. Stipend paid. Facilities include a library, woodworking shop, digital editing equipment, video filming and production equipment, studio lighting, and exhibition space. NEBRASKA
Art Farm

Artists purchase and prepare own food, work 15 hours per week. No fees; residences of 2-3 mos. Open to artists working in ceramics, drawing, installation, mixed media, painting, sculpture, woodworking; also conceptual artists, environmental artists, and multimedia artists. Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, 724 S. 12th St., Omaha, NE 68102 (402) 341-7130. 2 urban warehouses, 5 studios with apartments. Artists purchase own food and prepare meals; monthly stipend, residencies of 3 mos.; artists donate one piece and give at least one informal slide presentation. Equipment provided (kilns, bridge crane, forklifts, welding equipment, woodshop and tools, metalworking equipment, darkroom, video camera, editing equipment, printmaking equipment). Lux Center for the Arts, 2601 N. 48th St., Lincoln, NE 68504 (402) 466-8692. Residencies for up to 4 artists at a time of 3 months to two years in ceramics, printmaking, painting, fiber art, and metals. Artists receive shared studio space, exhibit opportunities (for residencies of a year or longer), paid teaching opportunities, but no housing. Residents are required to assist the mission of the center for up to 10 hours per week, give a public slide presentation on their work, and donate one piece made while in residence. (visual arts)

NORTH DAKOTA
The Arts Center

Stipend and supply costs, technical and printing assistance available. Furnished apartment. 4 artists per year. Artist must donate one print from each edition, or one piece from a selection of unique work created during the residency, must be open to allowing museum visitors to watch you in your studio occasionally, and be willing to speak to local college audiences. SOUTH DAKOTA
Badlands National Park
